Camp Merritt

Camp Merritt was built in 1917 as the staging area for soldiers leaving for the American Expeditionary Forces out of the Port of Hoboken. It became the main replacement depot of World War I.

Camp Sherman

Built in September 1917, Camp Sherman was designed to accommodate 42,000 soldiers training for the American Expeditionary Forces. By the war’s end Camp Sherman had trained roughly 124,500 soldiers.
